Why I quit the American Dream

The definition of the American Dream according to Merriam-Webster is: “a happy way of living that is thought of by many Americans as something that can be achieved by anyone in the U.S. especially by working hard and becoming successful”. The term was first introduced in 1931 The Epic of America by James Truslow Adams. He defines the American Dream as “a dream of a better, richer and happier life for all our citizens of every rank.”

Long have we held that the American Dream equates to living a prosperous and secure life which equates to a comfortable house, a vehicle and a growing family. This is achieved through attending college, putting in hard work, having fiscal responsibility and your ability to court the One.

At the ripe age of 25 I had all of these things. I had a wife, a child with another on the way, a 6-figure job, a brand new electric car and home ownership. I truly was living the American Dream!

Then why wasn’t I happy? Why did these things not satisfy me? Why with all my apparent success did I feel so empty inside?

I think a lot of you reading this absolutely relate to this in some way.

As you’ve probably guessed, I decided to change my stars-so to speak. I still have my family, my wife and my three children, but I’ve given up on the others. I no longer have my 6-figure job and am in the process of selling my home and vehicles. Not because I have to, but because this is not satisfactory for me. I am putting my all into what I am passionate about -this business.

I have come to realize that happiness does not come from a high paying job, owning a house, having nice cars and living the life most people would kill for. I also realize that most people would say I’m absolutely crazy, but who are they to tell me what makes me happy?

I think that everyone deserves their own happiness. I want to help others achieve their happiness by finding their passion and moving up and on.

My blog posts aren’t for the faint of heart. I post honestly and brutally and are intended to make people think.
